The needles persist for a very long time on the tree and often show tiny resin droplets (a characteristic feature). It thrives in very free-draining soils (sandy\/stony), preferably neutral to acidic, and tolerates exposed sites well. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils and overly shady locations.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2751\" data-end=\"2773\">Origin &amp; history<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2775\" data-end=\"3335\">A species native to the high mountains of the southern Rockies, naturally occurring in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
