It keeps dense summer foliage, then changes very clearly in autumn.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1218\">Colours<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1499\">\n<li data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1290\">\n<p data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1290\"><strong data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1235\">Spring<\/strong> : soft green to almost yellow (very luminous).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1291\" data-end=\"1318\">\n<p data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1318\"><strong data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1300\">Summer<\/strong> : dark green.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1319\" data-end=\"1499\">\n<p data-start=\"1321\" data-end=\"1499\"><strong data-start=\"1321\" data-end=\"1332\">Autumn<\/strong> : yellow to yellow-orange; orange and sometimes red tones may appear depending on exposure, soil moisture\/coolness, and temperature swings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1519\">Habit &amp; vigour<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1713\">Large shrub \/ small tree habit, rather upright and broad. Moderate vigor: steady growth in cool, moist soil, without being a very fast cultivar.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1741\">Indicative size<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1743\" data-end=\"1799\">Observed orders of magnitude depending on sources and training:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1801\" data-end=\"2011\">\n<li data-start=\"1801\" data-end=\"1863\">\n<p data-start=\"1803\" data-end=\"1863\">around 1.8 to 2.4 m tall at about 10 years (often),<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1864\" data-end=\"1925\">\n<p data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"1925\">with a spread that can become significant with age,<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"2011\">\n<p data-start=\"1928\" data-end=\"2011\">long term, generally in the 2 to 4 m range (variable with conditions).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2027\">Exposure<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2029\" data-end=\"2298\">Bright partial shade recommended. Gentle sun (morning) is possible if the soil stays cool and moist; avoid harsh afternoon sun, especially in containers. A sheltered position protected from dry winds is advised.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2589\" data-end=\"2611\">Origin &amp; history<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2880\" class=\"translation-block\">The name \u2018Microphyllum\u2019 literally means \u201csmall-leaved\u201d. Several sources agree that this cultivar was introduced by the Esveld nursery (Netherlands) from a clone originating from the Botanical Garden of Coimbra (Portugal).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Microphyllum\u2019 is an original Acer shirasawanum (full moon maple), with smaller leaves than most shirasawanum while still keeping the \u201cfull moon\u201d texture (rounded leaves, often slightly cupped). In spring it starts a soft green, almost yellow, then deepens to dark green in summer, before putting on a bright yellow-to-orange autumn show, sometimes reaching orange\/red tones depending on conditions.
