The very finely cut foliage stays elegant all season, and autumn brings a warm, luminous finish.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1177\">Colours<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1412\">\n<li data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1292\">\n<p data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1292\"><strong>Spring<\/strong> : pink on young leaves, with darker green veins (reticulated\/filigree effect).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1368\">\n<p data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1368\"><strong>Summer<\/strong> : light green to green (the contrast may become more subtle).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1369\" data-end=\"1412\">\n<p data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1412\"><strong>Autumn<\/strong> : bright yellow to orange.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1414\" data-end=\"1432\">Habit &amp; vigour<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1434\" data-end=\"1617\">Weeping habit (cascade), sometimes described as semi-weeping depending on training and the graft. Moderate growth, with development that generally remains contained.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1619\" data-end=\"1645\">Indicative size<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1703\">Observed orders of magnitude depending on sources and training:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"2031\">\n<li data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1766\">\n<p data-start=\"1707\" data-end=\"1766\">often listed at around 1.2 m at 10 years,<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1920\">\n<p data-start=\"1769\" data-end=\"1920\">an old specimen in cultivation was reported at about 0.9 m tall \u00d7 1.2 m wide after many years (indicative order of magnitude),<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"2031\">\n<p data-start=\"1923\" data-end=\"2031\">the form (more \u201cdome\u201d or more \u201ccascade\u201d) depends greatly on the graft, staking and pruning.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2047\">Exposure<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2049\" data-end=\"2331\">Bright partial shade recommended, or gentle (morning) sun. Protection from hot afternoon sun helps keep the foliage clean, especially on spring growth.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2654\">Origin &amp; history<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2656\" data-end=\"2934\">\u2018Sweet Lorraine\u2019 is presented as a chance seedling selected and introduced by Talon Buchholz \/ Buchholz Nursery (Oregon, USA). It is often described as a newer introduction in the line of fine-leaved selections with strongly marked venation effects.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Sweet Lorraine\u2019 is a Japanese maple of the dissectum type with a weeping habit, remarkable for its reticulated effect: in spring, the finely cut leaves take on a pink tone while the darker veins create a very graphic pattern. In summer, the plant turns light green, then offers a yellow to orange autumn display.
