Ornatum

Character & interest

‘Ornatum’ naturally forms a dome/cushion silhouette with arching branches that cascade down—typical of dissectums. Its charm comes as much from the texture (very fine foliage) as from the colour transitions through the year. It is a reliable cultivar, often chosen as a “classic” among dissectums.

Colours

• Spring : bronze-red foliage (often luminous on young leaves).

• Summer : shifts to bronze-green / bronzed green.

• Autumn : crimson red (sometimes with orange nuances depending on conditions).

Habit & vigour

Weeping, umbrella-like habit; moderate growth. Branching becomes denser with time.

Indicative size

As a guide: often 1.2 to 2 m in many growing situations, with a potential up to 3 m (or more depending on training and graft), and a spread often similar (sometimes 3–4 m in the ground if left unpruned). In a container, growth remains more contained.

Exposure

Bright partial shade or gentle sun. Good light intensifies colours, but protection from scorching sun and drying wind improves the hold of the fine foliage, especially in containers.
