Character & interest

This cultivar stands out above all for its texture: the lobes are very deeply cut and the whole foliage creates a very light, almost “thread-like” effect, yet on an upright maple silhouette. The spring coloring (orange/yellow) is very visible in the garden, and the tree stays ornamental all season thanks to the summer chartreuse green, followed by the warm autumn finale.

Colours

• Spring : vivid orange at budbreak, then often bright yellow as the season progresses.

• Summer : chartreuse green (more or less intense depending on exposure and vigor).

• Autumn : orange to red (often very bright).

Habit & vigour

Upright habit, with ascending branching. Moderate to good vigor, with steady growth in cool soil. Like many fine-leaved maples, it appreciates sheltered positions protected from drying winds.

Indicative size

Observed orders of magnitude depending on sources and training:

• about 1.8 m tall for 1.5 m wide at around 10 years,

• some references suggest 2–2.5 m at that age depending on conditions,

• in the long term, it forms a well-proportioned small tree (training and climate strongly influence final size).

Exposure

Gentle sun / bright partial shade. To keep high foliage quality and avoid scorch in hot climates, prefer morning sun with light afternoon shade.
