Coral magic
‘Coral Magic’ is a dwarf Japanese maple with a compact habit, sought after for its very intense coral to salmon-pink budbreak in spring. The foliage then turns green in summer, before finishing in bright orange tones in autumn. A real “wow factor” cultivar, perfect in a pot and in a small garden.
Character & interest
The strength of ‘Coral Magic’ is its spectacular spring display: a coral pink that can be seen from far away, instantly bringing light to a planting. It then becomes a very neat little green maple for summer, before putting on a beautiful orange blaze at the end of the season.
Colours
-
Spring : very bright coral / salmon-pink foliage (sometimes with warmer nuances depending on exposure).
-
Summer : green foliage (calmer tone, holds well in a container).
-
Autumn : vivid orange, often very clean and clear.
Habit & vigour
Dwarf habit, rather bushy and compact, overall about as wide as it is tall. Moderate vigour (steady growth, without excess).
Indicative size
Order of magnitude: about 1.5 to 2 m ultimately (often around 1.5 m at 10 years), with a similar spread depending on cultivation and pot size.
Exposure
Gentle sun / bright partial shade. To keep the foliage impeccable, especially in a pot: avoid dry wind and scorching afternoon sun in summer. Sufficient light in spring helps achieve the best coral colouring.
