This cultivar offers the typical “full moon” presence: broad leaves, a small-tree habit, and autumn colour that catches the light beautifully. It is often reported as more delicate to propagate, which explains why availability can be irregular in nurseries.

Colours

• Spring : soft green, sometimes yellow-green.

• Summer : dark green; denser foliage, sometimes described as slightly rough.

• Autumn : golden yellow, then orange, with possible shifts towards red depending on conditions.

Habit & vigour

Large shrub / small tree habit, rather upright at first, then more flared with age. Slow to moderate vigour for an Acer shirasawanum: steady growth if the soil stays cool in summer, without being a fast cultivar.

Observed orders of magnitude depending on sources and training:

• about 2 to 3 m in typical conditions,

• potentially 4 to 5 m in the ground over time (variable with climate, soil and training),

• width often similar to height at maturity (balanced silhouette).

Exposure

Bright partial shade recommended, with gentle sun possible (morning). Avoid scorching afternoon sun, especially in a pot. Sheltered from drying winds.
