Filigree

Character & interest

‘Filigree’ stands out first for its texture: a very fine, “lace-like” dissectum with a delicate look. In spring, it can show very pale foliage (sometimes almost white / very pale green) contrasted by darker veins, creating a highly sought-after reticulated appearance.
Note: there are cultivars with similar names (e.g., ‘Red Filigree Lace’, ‘Filigree Rouge’, ‘Pink Filigree’) — here, ‘Filigree’ refers to the pale/green variegated form.

Colours

• Spring : very pale to pastel green, often cream-marbled and/or with a marked veined effect (very luminous).

• Summer : the foliage generally becomes green (the pale effect may soften).

• Autumn : golden yellow to orange (often warm, more gentle than spectacular).

Habit & vigour

Weeping and spreading habit, forming a cushion shape (the “open umbrella” style typical of dissectums). Slow to moderate vigour.

Indicative size

As a guide: often around 1.5 m (sometimes a little more) with age, with a spread that can reach 2 m depending on conditions and training.

Exposure

Bright partial shade recommended. In hot climates, ‘Filigree’ is sometimes described as more delicate in summer (foliage may scorch or thin out in strong heat), hence the value of a cool position, sheltered from drying winds and protected from scorching afternoon sun — especially in a pot.
