Hooftman A
A Japanese maple with a very bright spring flush: silvery to creamy foliage, sometimes tinged with pink, with a sharp contrast of dark green veins. As the season progresses the foliage greens up, then autumn can shift toward orange to clearly red tones depending on conditions.
Character & interest
‘Hooftman A’ is mainly grown for its highly graphic spring display: a very light background with strongly marked dark veins, plus a fine leaf texture that catches the light beautifully. The cultivar remains elegant through the season, then often delivers a more expressive finish than you might expect.
Colours
-
Spring : silvery / cream, sometimes pink-tinged; very visible dark green veins.
-
Summer : green (more or less deep).
-
Autumn : orange to clear red, sometimes reaching a stronger red depending on exposure, cool moisture and temperature swings.
Habit & vigour
Natural, rather upright habit with a readable silhouette. Moderate to good vigour.
Indicative size
Small to medium development: the overall size depends strongly on training and conditions (container vs in-ground, exposure, plant vigour).
Exposure
Gentle light best highlights the spring contrast: bright partial shade or morning sun. In hot/windy situations, light afternoon protection improves foliage quality and consistency.
